You Decided to Make The Switch....Now What? Our Guide to Prep For Your First Wax

Want a Better Waxing Experience? It Starts with the Right Prep!

Whether you are new to this or TRUE to this waxing game, what you d jo before and after your appointment makes a huge difference in your results. At The Skyn Lounge, we believe waxing should be comfortable and confidence boosting. Here’s our go-to guide to help you get the most out of every wax!

Before you even decide you want to switch over to waxing, go ahead and put down the razor. Because you need to:

Let the Hair Grow

For the best results, hair should be about 1/4 inch long, roughly the length of a grain of rice. Too short? The wax won’t grip. Too long? It might feel more uncomfortable. But DO NOT trim it yourself before your appointment. Leave that to the pros!

Exfoliate Gently 24 Hours Before

Lightly exfoliate the area (especially legs or bikini) with a gentle scrub or exfoliating glove the day before your wax. This removes dead skin cells,  helps lift trapped hairs for a cleaner pull and moisturizes the skin to allow for a more comfortable wax.

⚠️ Don’t exfoliate the day of your wax — your skin will be more sensitive

Skip the Lotion or Oils

On the day of your appointment, keep the area clean and dry. No lotions, creams, or body oils. They can interfere with how the wax adheres to the hair.

Avoid Caffeine, Alcohol and Smoking

All three of these can increase skin sensitivity and make waxing feel more intense. Try to hydrate and relax before your appointment instead. IF necessary, take an ibuprofen 30 minutes before your appointment.

Wear Loose Clothing

Opt for loose-fitting clothes to avoid friction or irritation post-wax especially after a Brazilian, bikini, or underarm service.

At The Skyn Lounge, we’re here to make sure you walk out feeling confident, comfortable, and cared for. Following these simple pre wax tips will help your skin look its best and stay smooth longer between appointments.
